"A WONDERFUL fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to each other. A solemn consideration, which I enter a great city by night, that every one of those darkly clustered houses encloses its own secret; that every room in every one of them encloses its own secret; that every beating heart in the hundreds of thousands of breasts there, is, in some of its imaginings, a secret to the heart nearest it!"
I think that this quote means that everything has its own secret no matter where its found. Everyone has its own secret that they keep from others, it could be a fear, it could be something in the past, it could be something that they're still dealing with, or it could even be something that could happen later in their life, others will try to discover and understand the secret. This quote could give background on the characters in the book and Dickens could possibly relate his own personal experiences with this. This is important because this could help the plot of the story. For example, if a character is having emotional breakdown possibly another character could console to that character which would help the relationships between the characters in the book. This is an important factor to relationships because if you can understand them and help them if it is needed then the relationship can become stronger.
